University of Arizona Commencement
The UA university-wide commencement ceremony happens only once each year in May. December graduates are welcome to attend the Commencement ceremony either before or after their graduation date. Note, however, that a student’s name will only appear in the commencement program after the student’s degree has conferred. Please visit the University Commencement website for more information: https://commencement.arizona.edu/
Per university rules (http://commencement.arizona.edu/eligibility-requirements), August graduates, on the other hand, are welcome to participate only in the preceding May commencement and will have their names listed in that commencement program, assuming there are no more than 6 hours remaining for degree completion.
To view the university-wide commencement ceremony schedule, please see the University of Arizona academic calendar page: http://catalog.arizona.edu/acadcals.html
Convocation and Commencement
While “commencement,” “convocation,” and “celebration” are different types of graduation ceremonies, all involve recognizing the achievements of graduating Wildcats.
COMMENCEMENT:
-
A UNIVERSITY-WIDE CELEBRATION
-
Commencement includes an address from the University President, a guest keynote speaker, the conferring of degrees, and awarding of honorary degrees and student awards.
CONVOCATION
-
Small-Setting Ceremony
-
Convocations are graduation ceremonies in which students are acknowledged in a smaller setting, often recognized individually or by name. These are designed and coordinated by each individual school or college.
